About Patti Pennington
For Pat, it started at the age of 3 when her mom gave her a mic singing “Sign Me Up” at her home church in Detroit, Tennessee Baptist Church. As time went by Pat Pennington grew in song and at the age of 9 experienced the tragic loss of her father and one year later the passing of her mother, it wasn’t easy for Pat.
Growing up in a home as the youngest child of 11 awesome siblings, not to mention my mom, the late Jean Reed (at that time she was known as the “Gospel Seed of WCHB”), was special for me. Often her and my dad, the late Charles Pennington (whom also was one of the Gospel Extraordinaires of music), would bring the biggest gospel concerts in the quartet field to Detroit.
By the age of 11 she was singing Quartet and has had the opportunity to travel with Tu Tu & Truthettes which was her favorite group. Later, by the age of 13, she was introduced to contemporary music by the late Pastor Oscar Hayes & Abundant Life Chorale along with Darius Twyman where she traveled across the country giving God the highest praises. This journey led her into recording several solos on the choirs albums.
As time went on she grew into becoming a hair stylist and by the age of 19 she had opened up her first salon which led into owning two salons for 13 years. This allowed her to start her first nonprofit program on the grounds of her salon ‘Youth Mentorship Encouragement Program” where her & fellow coworker Cris Mimms fed the children, taught them how to pray, the 10 commandments and allowed different speakers to come in an speak to the youth. This is where it all started, Pat learned at this time that it wasn’t about her she had a job to do for the youth!
